Family and EducationI am from Proddutur, Kadapa District. My father Subbireddy passed away in my B.Tech. 3rd year. Naga Tulasamma is homemaker and my sister Siva Lakshmi Devi got married.
I have done B.Tech. in EEE with aggregate of 72% from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology at Hyderabad. My EAMCET and GATE ranks are 3203 and 2096 respectively.
PreparationI gave up my MNC job to get into prestigious Indian Engineering Services (IES) and took long term coaching for it. I have cracked APGENCO amidst the coaching that is after 8 months. I dint skip single class to get on track with the subjects. Lecture notes and coaching material is sufficient for preparation. However, one may clarify their doubts either by referring standard books or from the mentors. Making brief notes during the lecture sessions is very helpful so that you may not miss a single point. By practicing many previous GATE and IES papers enabled me to improve my problem solving skills. Exercising numerous model papers and online tests gave me vast experience and boosted up my confidence levels.
Exam patternAP GENCO conducted in 2012 was for 100 marks, which consisted of technical and mental ability objective type questionnaire for 70 marks and 30 marks subsequently. Technical part was comprised of questions related to formula and application based, more or less 50 questions were of this kind. You can directly attempt them accurately if you know the formula.
Quantitative aptitude and reasoning constituted the mental ability, which was of 10th class standard. I dint go for special preparation for mental ability, by applying common sense one can get through it without any difficulty. Being good at aptitude and reasoning helped me to acquire maximum marks in mental ability, which in turn improved my score. I obtained 55 out of 70 in Technical and 26 out of 30 in mental ability.
Tips and Tricks- Practicing multiple model papers and online tests is extremely helpful and gives you a real time experience.
- Consistency is most important, don’t skip the single class if you are taking up coaching.
- Revise important formulas and concepts a week before the exam.
- Discussing the various topics with your friends helps you to clarifying various doubts.
- Study comprehensively instead of run out of many.
- Make sure that your exam must be finished before the stipulated time. I will strongly recommend sparing atleast 20 minutes time to recap and recheck the answers.
- Try to attempt direct and simple questions initially, then move into the complicated problems.
- As there was no negative marking as most central govt exams and PSUs had, better to attempt all questions, though you may know a little.
- One should make best attempt to score maximum marks in mental ability to obtain overall good score.
